Women Empowerment

These females’ lives make such compelling stories for viewers and listeners because it’s an answer to all the wondering questions people tend form about other cultures, or an insight of the harsh reality of what type of society we truly live in. For example, Malala is a 12 year old Middle Eastern girl who lives in SWAT, Pakistan and this is her story (http://www.nytimes.com/video/world/asia/100000001835296/class-dismissed.html). She states that she wants to become a doctor, yet the environment she lives in restricts her from making her aspiration achievable. In her town, it is currently under the rule of Taliban’s who are people that enforce their beliefs on others through fear and violence. We constantly here stories about how females are treated in the Middle East but never do w get a glimpse of exactly what’s going on. Malala and her dad take us inside their lives and what it is like to live in their town. Her father is in charge of an all girl school and with their current crisis they worry if the school will be able to remain a school. Taliban has issued that any females going to school and are caught it is not only on the female but the school and guardians, meaning the punishment of disobeying their threat will not be taken lightly. Schools were being blown up and people were being beheaded. Families were evacuating SWAT while some were taking risk and staying - sending their daughters to school. Eventually Malala dad sends her, her mom and two brothers to live with family elsewhere while he fight for the right of not just his daughter education but other people daughters education. He tells Malala that her dream to become a doctor is no longer a dream that she has to become a politician so that she can fight for girls that come after her making it possible for them to become a doctor just like she wanted to.  Out of all the stories I’ve read, viewed or heard from this one stuck out the most because here I am so fortunate while on the other side of the globe it’s a different scenario and it sadden my heart to hear and witness that people are still living in the past or actually think this type of belief is okay. Just because we are female doesn’t mean we need to be treated otherwise because at the end of the day, it is female who births and it is female who raise the child, so we deserve just the same amount of respect as male.

Such controversy as this, mainstream movies makers or authors would generally neglect this topic because movies and books are supposed to be like a utopia. Just like fashion if it’s not what’s trending or the next big thing it won’t sell. It’s what more appealing to the eye that generally gets produced. Not to mention, movies and books are like some sort of fantasy world that people can go to and be happy, even if it have a sad ending. The fact that you can sit there and imagine that you are the character and that it’s your story gives people a sense of their childhood back; it allows them to use their imagination willingly. For instant each female in these recordings (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/08/16/us/20090816_women_feature.html?_r=1&) joined the army. We all know being a female in the army is rough, so why would anyone watching a movie or reading a book want to imagine themselves as a female in the army? Being a female in the army you always have to prove yourself, sexism is something that you will constantly have to deal with daily and so on. Let’s not forget those who’ve been raped, we all know in most cases they tend to brush it under the rug as if it was the female fault. That’s just too raw for a movie or book; authors and movie makers like to use their creativity to twist a story to make it manageable for a person to take in.

You know sometimes you have to think, are stories like these ladies as powerful as famous females? To be honest I think the stories of famous female celebrities are just typical and tired. You don’t have to tell me their story I can probably guess it for you. The world need to know more about females like Malala or females in the army rather than someone who is in the spotlight having to suck up their pride to create an imagine so they can make a living. It just baffles me how people idolize half these celebrities, how about we idolize Middle Eastern girls, or female soldiers who risk their lives for us, or girls like me who recognize that their race is just spinning out of control and becoming everything society want them to be. All I want to do is better myself and become successful not to say I am no longer a statistic or stereotype, but to say I did this for myself, I escape poverty and did not take anything for granted especially when I come from a foreign background where my parents didn’t have the same opportunities I have now.

So My Women’s Literature Class I had To Write A Short Story That Basically Tells What Happens Before The 1st Chapter In A Book Call Fledgling.

Prologue by GilaSkelly

A tall tree-like guy sits on his porch. Slowly chewing tobacco, taking in what’s left of a nice day. In fact, it was too nice for a small town in Seattle - where rain nearly blesses the farmers almost every day… it was definitely a nice day. On the side of the house was his son, who is completely opposite of him. Besides inheriting his father’s height, Billy is a sweet curly red head who seem to enjoy everything his father dislike. He is an English teacher at an elementary school that is about a fourth mile away from the ranch. Billy loves his job, but his father thought it was sissy job and he should’ve chosen a different profession. His dad is an old time veteran who fought in the Battle of Seattle.

"Billy!" screamed Andrew.
"Yes pops?"

"It’s time." He replied in an enigmatic tone, squinting at the road looking to see if he saw anything odd. Billy rolled his eyes and let out an immense sigh, for he hated going to these meetings and thought it wasn’t worth his time nor energy. He felt as though these meetings that his father forced him to take part of, are straight bonkers and did not want to believe nothing those old guys have to say. "I’m not going have fun with your loony-bin friends, besides how it would look if I was to get caught - I can lose my job." he said exclaimed. "Watch yah mouth boy! Who cares about that sissy job yah doing, you need to tah be doing something better with your life; taking care of kids is a woman jobs! Besides, these meetings are for a good cause, you don’t care about your country? Let alone your community? You’re gonna get going an’ join me and my loony-bin friends an’ you’re going to enjoy it, you hear me?" Andrew stated in disbelief.

Hours later, the moon is wide awake with the sun now asleep, a cool breeze passes through the cotton fields and grasshoppers begin to creek. Deep into the fields by the Seattle Salt Lake, a meeting is being held, inside a shabby wooden shed with hundred year old moss hugging the corners. Coming in groups of 6, everyone begins to take their seat. With disgust in his face Billy decides to sit in the back next to Old Man Jenkins instead of up front with his father. “Alright, alright, settle down folks, before we begin this meeting I have an announcement” hollered Jerry the town sheriff, standing next to him is his wife and about 35 other women. “Now, my wife here took it upon herself to gather a bunch of ladies and got the idea that we should recruit some females into this here uh group we got goin’. Now I ain’ gon’ argue with her no more - though I still think it’s not a good idea, but who here has any objections with lettin’ these gorgeous ladies in our group to fight off these demons like humans?” Everyone looks around and then looks at Jerry, not wanting to answer because they all know; they don’t want any females hanging around when their plan soon goes into effect.

"In this town the females are the ones who are suppose to take care of the house and kids, not fight with rifles, but if that’s what they wan’ do, and we all know we can’t argue with them cause it’s plain as water they got they mind made up, I say let’s let them in." Cyrus exclaimed.

"Now Cyrus lets thoroughly think about this…" Melvin began to say until he caught Cynthia, his girlfriend glaring at him - piercing her eyes right through his soul. "Ugh, yea never-er mind, I say let them in." Melvin stated rubbing the back of his neck with embarrassment. Old Man Jenkins began to laugh hysterically, "I guess Melvin here not getting any cutty tonight." All the guys soon began to catch on as to why Jenkins said that and began to laugh with him, while the ladies was still standing there now with their arms crossed across their chest and the straightest face. They wanted to fight with the guys and felt this was a matter that shouldn’t be taken so lightly. "Look you’re going to need all the people you can get to fight these things, no one knows what they’re capable of or what they plan to do, so you might as well just suck it up an’ agree to let us in - besides some of us can probably shoot better than you." Cynthia said catching everyone attention. Jerry began to cough, "Okay fine, you guys are in, now can we get back to business, I hope you guys are ready cause after this meeting we will be puttin’  into effect the biggest war Seattle every had. I don’t know how many vampires are out there but once we take down these two communities, lord knows what we could have started."

"You guys actually think there are vampires out here? Are y’all okay? This is blasphemy and stupid, we’re wasting our time on mystical creatures that are only known on TV or in books. What’s next, Unicorns, how about we come together an’ think of new ways to improve the school system or the town? Use our time more productively!" Billy shouted in disbelief that he was being forced to take part in this ridiculous plan.  Everyone turned around and looked at Billy. "Boy! Sit down and stop talking nonsense! This right here is productive. Now! I say we get some silencers and gasoline, burn their houses down and if any try to run have some snipers ready to shoot’em dead." Andrew yelled in triumph. Andrew sat down while everyone took a moment of silence to think about the plan Andrew just came up with.

"That’s not a bad idea." Cyrus said. "Yea that’s not bad at all, we can have the ladies in hiding ready to shoot while we go in and burn everything and every monster." Jerry chimed in.

"So that’s the plan we burn these filthy beasts down and shoot’em in case of anything, y’all do know these monsters can run, you think a bullet quicker? I think we should have some stakes in case one comes too close." Old Man Jenkins added. " Fine so it’s set, Next week on this same Thursday, 3pm sharp, we’ll go over to their the house full of vampire ladies and wipe’em out quick. Half of the ladies and half of the men will stay out as snipers, while the rest go out to the house with the gas and stakes. This is a one shot deal, those who don’t make it back, just know you did not die in vain, you died for a good cause and we will make sure to live out your memory forever." declared Jerry. "HERE, HERE!" all the guys shouted startling the women, and then the meeting was quietly adjourn once Jacob check for the area to see if it was all cleared.

Days had gone by and it is now Thursday, or should I say “V-Day”. The air is cool and crisp, sitting on the porch waiting for her sisters and mothers to wake up was a little vampire girl named Shori. Day dreaming about what she would possible look like when she finally turn 60, in the Ina community a vampire turning 60 would be the beginning to adulthood.  For Shori, that would be seven years from now on this very exact day. Shori is about 4”11, mocha complexion with long wavy like hair and big brown eyes that sparkle whenever you look at them.

"Nathannn…" Shori called out in a soft playful tone. Nathan is one of Shori symbionts, he is 6"3, short curly dark brown hair, with white chocolate skin, and he was Shori’s favorite. Shori had met him one day she went to go buy ice cream at the creamery about 3 miles from where she lived. Nathan was serving her a sundae and when their eyes met she instantly felt a connection, since then they had been very inseparable.

"You called?" smirking Nathan as he replied. Nathan then reaches down to pick her up and set her on his lap.

"Yes, I want you to go to the creamery and get my sisters and me our favorite ice cream please. Momma also left a list of groceries, can you stop by the market as well. Thank you." Shori said as she leaned in to kiss him. Nathan kissed back and for a moment she forgot why she even called him. His kisses were sweet like honey, Shori could never contain herself whenever they connected - but this time she did.  As Shori pulled away, Nathan placed her back on the porch and turned away to complete his task.

Time flew by and it’s nearly 3 o’clock now, Nathan was still out but Shori didn’t mind because she knew he would end up wondering around as usual. Nathan is always by her side, sometimes Shori needed to send him off so she can show the other symboints more attention.  Shori got up from where she was sitting and went inside to see what the others were doing.

"Now, do y’all member the plan, right?" Jerry said nervously as him and all the others were in a huddle. Everyone was staring back him nodding; they all wore black sweat suits with black timberland boots. The guys were in ski masks, while the ladies all wore black paint on their face and black bandanas. Everyone soon to take position, the ladies and some guys as planned hid behind all the trees that stood in front of the house, some even climbed to the top with their silencers on their backs patiently waiting for the others to give their cue when to shoot. The air was now tense; the others now began to circle the house with gasoline tanks making sure they covered everything in sight with gas.

"Do you smell that?" Shori said to Olivia feeling a little odd. "No, what smell?" Olivia replied in confusion. "Smells like something sweet and dangerous." Shori began to sniff around the house trying to find out where this smell was coming from, but then realized she had circled the whole house and still couldn’t manage to find out where this smell was coming from. As Shori began to walk the down the stairs coming from her little detective adventure she heard a faint scream and felt a gust of heat smack her across her face. She quickly ran down the stairs, astonished from what she is now seeing, Shori began to panic. The entire kitchen and living room was up in flames. Shori raced to the kitchen to fetch a bucket of water to put the fire out but by time she gotten back the fire was swiftly spreading upstairs to her mothers and sisters rooms. She looked left, and then right, she started to smell multiple foreign smells of other humans. Furious at the smells she took in, Shori speed through the front door and up the nearest tree where one of the snipers hid. She then grabbed Cynthia’s neck and tore out her throat. Off to the next couple of trees, silently and quickly Shori killed off all the snipers. While all of this was taken place, riding down the road singing the latest country song Nathan noticed thick black smoke. In worry he rushed to the house hoping Shori and the others were okay, but mainly Shori. Getting out the car without noticing a bullet raced right through the middle of his head. Shori soon creep up on the guys who shot Nathan, but as soon as Nathan fell to the ground Shori trip and the guy turn around in fright putting three bullets to her head. The others raced over and started to beat, kick and spit on her. "Yea you little nigger, thought you would run up on Andrew like that." screamed Old Man Jenkins. Feeling slightly weak from the bullets and the beating Shori still managed to find the strength to kill both Old Man Jenkins and Andrew. "Noooooooo!" cried out Billy, never did he think he would lose his dad like this. Billy quickly got himself together and in anger ran after Shori, but he was too slow. Shori ran off turning back every moment to see her once beautiful house now a dark prison. She wanted to cry at the thought of it just being her able to fight off those cowards who killed everyone she knew and loved. She vowed as soon as she wakes up from hiding, vengeance shall be hers.
